Marketing in 2016

December 24, 2015

The predictions are out. What ten steps will lead you to marketing success in 2016. I've already retweeted several myself. As a cinematographer, I'm pleased to see video on the list for many but it's got me thinking about what I see coming. Based off my experience as a millenial and an online video marketer, what's coming down the pipe?

I can sum it up in one word: Experience.

Create a post, a video, a blog that allows the viewer or reader to experience what a business is like, a trip, a new city and you'll engage your audience.

We are bombarded by images and videos. So how do you break through the clutter? Be funny?

Be creative? I believe the key is to demonstrate an incredible experience the viewer will feel compelled to take part in. Show them a beautiful adventure they want to be part of.

Whether we admit or not, we want to be moved. We want to explore. Eventbrite's research says 3 in 4 Millennials would choose to spend money on a desirable experience or event over buying something desireable.

As a Millennial myself I can confirm this research and my work does as well. I recently traveled to

Milwaukee's Third Ward for a day trip with my husband. I filmed our day of exploring and put together a highlight video of our day. I shared the video to my personal Facebook account. By far, it received more views, comments and shares than any video I have posted thus far.

Why?

Because it made people want to visit Milwaukee. They watched us explore the Public Market, walk by Lake Michigan and see the waves crash against the shore. It simply showed an experience we had. An experience appealing enough that they wanted it too. It told a story. It brought beauty to their day.

So whether you're marketing a product, city or service. I believe the key to breaking through the clutter in 2016 is presenting a piece of media that moves your audience. Show them beauty. Spark passion. They will engage.
